Irish feature film ‘32A’, from writer/director Marian Quinn, is set to screen as part of the Generation 14 Plus category at the prestigious Berlinale Film Festival, which takes place from the 7th-17th February 2008.
‘32A’, an Irish/German co-production, will compete with Mani Maserrat-Agah’s ‘Ciao Bella,’ (Sweden); Paulo Morelli’s, ‘Cidade dos Homens’ (Brazil); Natasha Arthy’s ‘Fighter’ (Denmark); ‘Munyurangabo’ by Lee Isaac Chung, U.S.; Peter Carstairs’ ‘September’ (Australia); and Elissa Down’s ‘The Black Balloon’ (UK) at the German festival.
The film, set in Dublin’s Northside, 1979, the film stars young actress Ailish McCarthy as 13 year old Maeve Brennan with Aidan Quinn (Song for a Raggy Boy, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee) playing her father. The film also stars Jared Harris (Igby Goes Down) and Orla Brady (Proof).
’32A’ picked up the Best First Feature gong at the Galway Film Fleadh in July.
‘32A’ is a Janey Pictures / Flying Moon Filmproduktions co-production with support from the Irish Film Board, the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, RTE, MDB and MDM.
The 14 Plus films will screen in the Babylon Mitte, a 1920’s style theatre that has been added to the other Berlinale venues – the Zoo Palast, Cinemaxx, Cubix and Colosseum, with the Best Film winner receiving a Crystal Bear award.
