The stars of John Carney’s ‘Once’, Czech singer Marketa Irglova and The Frames’ frontman Glen Hansard, have scooped the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) prize for Best Soundtrack.
The award comes the week after the Dublin-shot musical received nominations for Best Compilation Soundtrack and Best Song for track ‘Falling Slowly’ at the 2008 Grammy awards.
‘Once’ is a modern-day musical set on the streets of Dublin, telling the story of a busker and an immigrant, who fall in love over an eventful week as they write, rehearse and record a number of songs.
The film has picked up several prizes including the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival and the Best Foreign Film award at the Raindance Festival, London.
Other LAFCA winners included ‘There Will Be Blood’, which scooped Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson, Best Actor for Daniel Day Lewis and Best Production Design for Jack Fisk; and ‘4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days’ which won Best Supporting Actor for Vlad Ivanov and Best Foreign Language Film. The LAFCA prize winners will receive the awards at a gala evening in Los Angeles on January 12th 2008.
‘Once’ is produced by Samson Films with finance from Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board.
