Irish language documentary ‘ĺobairtí’, directed by Lugh Films’ Loic Jourdain, is set to air on Sunday 9th December at 9.30pm on TG4.
Filmed on location in Inishboffin and Magheroarty, Donegal, from March to September 2007, ‘ĺobairtí’ (‘Sacrifices’), follows the story of John O’Brien, a fisherman from Inishboffin Island in the Donegal Gaeltacht who disagrees with the Government’s total ban on Salmon fishing with driftnets.
John’s people have been fishermen for generations and he would like to be able to pass this tradition on to his sons. Because of the ban, this is currently not an option but John intends to fight for exemption for Island Communities who depend on Salmon fishing as a means of livelihood.
Produced by Donegal based production company Lugh Films, the TG4 commissioned doco was shot by Tristan Clamorgan, with Joe Marcus Editing in charge of posting.
Lugh Films recently picked up the ‘Spirit of the Festival’ Gold Torc Award at The Celtic Media Festival 2007 for the Best Film in a Celtic Language for ‘Fear na n-Oileán’.
‘Iobairti’ will air on TG4 on Sunday 9th December at 9.30pm with a repeat on Monday 10th at 8.00pm. The documentary will also be available to view on www.tg4.ie.
