The cast of long running soap ‘Fair City’ left Carrigstown behind and took to the stage yesterday for the recording of one off Christmas special ‘Fair City Sings’, set to air on RTÉ on Christmas Day.
Presented by ‘The Afternoon Show’ frontwoman, Bláthnaid Ni Chofaigh, the programme sees eight ‘Fair City’ regulars take to the microphone as they tackle everything from rock anthems to more recent pop classics.
The actors who took part are Pat Nolan (who plays Barry O’Hanlon), Sorcha Furlong (Orla Kirwan), Dave Duffy (Leo Dowling), Tom Hopkins (Christy Phelan), Jenny Kavanagh (Cleo Collins), Eoin Macken (Gavin Cluxton), Rebecca Smyth (Annette Daly) and Rachel Sarah Murphy (Jo Fahey).
“You will see some of Carrigstown’s most popular characters in a whole new light,” said Ni Chofaigh.
Backed by musical director Ronan Johnston and his ten-piece band, each 'Fair City' member’s performance was critiqued by a jury consisting of actors Gemma Craven (The Clinic), Gavin O'Fearraigh (Ros na Run) and Mary McEvoy (Glenroe), before the audience chose a winner.
‘Fair City Sings’ is produced by Bill Hughes of Mind the Gap Films and goes out on RTÉ One on Christmas night, time to be confirmed.
