Double Win for 'Ten Steps' Spooky Short

The Ten Steps
Irish director Brendan Muldowney’s haunted house horror short ‘The Ten Steps’ has picked up the Best Horror Film Award at the 24fps Short Film Festival in Texas. The film’s star Jill Harding also received the Best Actress Award at the fest, which took place on Friday 26th- Saturday 27th October.

The multi-award winning short, which has screened at over one hundred film festivals since its debut in 2004, will be one of five horror flics to screen at the inaugural Fantastic Film Festival of Mexico in early 2008, which will tour 19 Mexican cities.

Funded by the Galway Film Centre/RTÉ /Irish Film Board, 'The Ten Steps’ is produced by Conor Barry from Muldowney’s production company SP films. The eerie horror tells the story of a young girl, Katie (Harding), babysitting in an old house rumoured to be haunted, when a power outage forces her to descend the ten steps to the basement to fix the fuse. As she walks into the darkness, panic and terror begin to rise…

‘The Ten Steps’ features cinematography by Tom Comerford and Michael O’Donovan, with original music by Stephen McKeon and editing by Mairéad McIvor.

SP Films most recent short, the IFB Short Short ‘Final Journey’ is also doing the festival rounds, recently screening at the Rushes Soho Shorts Festival and at the Lund Fantastik Film Festival. It continues its festival run at the Braunschweig International Film Festival and the Icon Film Festival in Israel. Written and directed by Brendan Muldowney, and produced by Conor Barry, the film stars John Burke.

The Danse Macabre International Horror Film Festival in Canada, which takes place on Halloween night, will be screening five of SP Films shorts, including ‘The Ten Steps’ and ‘Final Journey’.
