Setanta Sports are set to air ‘Red Mist’, Wildfire Films 60-minute documentary which looks at Ireland's chaotic preparations for the 2002 World Cup finals, this Sunday 30th September at 9.30pm.
Written and directed by Eamon Little, ‘Red Mist - Roy Keane and The Football Civil War’ explores the events that took place in Saipan and Ireland over a six-day period in May 2002 when Ireland’s captain and star player Roy Keane was sent home to Ireland by his manager Mick McCarthy, just nine days before the teams opening match of the tournament.
The documentary, which was funded by the BCI and the Irish Film Board, captures the state of the nation during that unforgettable week, using animation to depict scenes from a typical Irish family during those turbulent times and features interviews with Eamon Dunphy, Tommie Gorman and Marian Finucane.
The film recreates the infamous episode where McCarthy and Keano went head to head in a war of words at the Hyatt Regency ballroom through the use of archive footage and interviews. The doco also visits Saipan and talks to some of those who witnessed the unfolding drama.
‘Red Mist’ will air on Setanta Ireland at 21.30pm on Sunday 30th September and will be available on DVD from 5th October.
