Irish director Neil Jordan’s thriller ‘The Brave One’ has reached number one in the US Box Office, taking in $14 million in its opening weekend.
The film, which features Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster in her first lead role since ‘Flightplan’, debuted in 2,755 locations across the US and Canada and pushed western ‘3:10 to Yuma’ off the number one slot.
Produced by Joel Silver and Susan Downey, ‘The Brave One’ follows New York radio host Erica Bain (Foster) in the aftermath of a brutal attack that leaves her badly wounded and her beloved fiancé dead. Unable to move on, Erica begins hunting down her fiancé’s killer in pursuit of revenge. Academy Award nominee Terence Howard (Get Rich or Die Tryin’), Oscar winner Mary Steenburgen (The Dead Girl, I Am Sam) and Naveen Andrews (Lost) also star.
Reviews for the movie have been positive with The Hollywood Reporter stating the vigilante drama “boasts a powerful Jodie Foster performance and carefully weighted direction by Neil Jordan…” and adding “Foster's haunted, fiercely committed performance certain to garner awards attention.”
The Irish premiere of ‘The Brave One’ takes place this Thursday, 20th September at the Savoy Cinema, Dublin. Director Neil Jordan will attend the screening. A select number of Irish Film & Television Academy members have also been invited to the gala event.
‘The Brave One’ opens across Ireland on the 28 September. The film is a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, of a Silver Pictures production. Written by Roderick Taylor, Bruce A. Taylor, Cynthia Mort, with director of photography Philippe Rousselot.
