The 2007 Temple Bar Diversions Festival will close this Friday 31st August when the CineTheatre Ensemble performs live to a screening of John McDonagh’s ‘Willie Reilly and His Colleen Bawn’, in association with the Irish Film Institute.
The 11-piece CineTheatre Ensemble will accompany the1919 silent film with an original score from composer Bernard Reilly. The musical group was commissioned in 1999 by Temple Bar Cultural Trust, a not-for-profit company that works to support culture in Temple Bar.
This 70 minute film, shot on location in Dublin, is an Irish Romeo and Juliet set in the 18th Century during the Penal Laws.
Now in its eighth year, the Diversions Festival is a summer celebration of arts and culture in the city with a wide range of free events on offer across Temple Bar including film, music, opera, live performance, family activities and markets.
Free tickets for ‘Willie Reilly and His Colleen Bawn’ are available to collect from Temple Bar Cultural Information Centre, 12 East Essex Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 from Friday 24th August. Tickets are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
Screening takes place at 9pm, Meeting House Square.
