A film featuring Irish contemporary composer Donnacha Dennehy will be screened on RTÉ on Monday 20th August. 'Patterns' is produced by Dublin-based Still Point Productions as part of a larger project, ‘Artist to Artist’, documenting artists at mid-career, in various creative disciplines.
The project to date has been funded by Still Point Productions Ltd. and Zapala Media Ltd.
Dublin-born Dennehy, who studied at Trinity College and the University of Illinois, has been commissioned to compose works performed by the National Chamber Choir of Ireland and the RTE Symphony Orchestra. He currently lectures in composition and music technology at Trinity College.
Directed by Garry Keane and edited by Mick Mahon, the five-minute film explores Donnacha Dennehy’s approach to composing from a stylistic and autobiographical point of view. The piece has so far screened at the Belfast Film Festival and is scheduled to screen later this year at the Dingle Film Festival and the Stranger than Fiction Film Festival at the IFI. The piece will be released online in 2008.
‘Patterns’ will be broadcast on RTÉ Two as part of its Shortscreen series, on Monday 20th August, at 11.45pm.
