The Irish Film Institute will hold an eight-week course on the topic of Film Noir, entitled ‘Shadows and Echoes’. The course, which kicks of on September 4th, involves a weekly film screening followed by a lecture, and will explore films of the genre from 1941-2005. Lecturers include professors from Trinity College, UCD and DCU.
Over the eight weeks, participants will be introduced to films considered film noir, as well as films that have been influenced by the genre, examining the genre’s history, aesthetics and styles. Film screenings will include the work of Billy Wilder, Howard Hawks, Jacques Tourneur, Jean Luc-Godard, Alex Proyas, the Coen Brothers and Rian Johnson.
Screenings will begin with Billy Wilder’s ‘Double Indemnity’, at 6.20 pm on September 4th, followed by a lecture in the IFI Meeting Room.

Cost is €125/€110 concession and includes tea/coffee on each evening prior to the screening.
