The 19th Galway Film Fleadh came to a close on Sunday night with seven top awards presented in feature, documentary and short categories. Marion Quinn’s ‘32A’ was named Best First Feature and ‘Teeth’, directed by John Kennedy and Ruairi O’Brien, picked up the Best Irish Shorts-Tiernan McBride Award.
Second place in the Best First Feature category went to ‘On Broadway’, directed by Dave McLaughlin. In the Best Irish Short category a Special Recommendation was made for Cecelia McAllister’s ‘The Missing Link’ while ‘Scumbot’ from Ciarán Foy came second place:.
Other top short film winners included ‘Hesitation’ from director Virginia Gilbert, which picked up the RTÉ Two Best First Irish Short award; ‘The McDonagh Pictures’ from director/producer Ian Palmer, winning the Best Irish Short Documentary category; ‘The Red Ball’ by Alan Holly which scooped both the RTE Best First Short Animation and the Best Irish Short Animation awards. Documentaries ‘God Grew Tired of Us’ and ‘The Cats fo Mirikitani’ tied for first place: in the Best Feature Documentary category, while Irish feature documentary ‘Saviours’, from Ross Whitaker and Liam Nolan, was named runner up.
William Collins picked up the Stella Artois Pitching Award for his project ‘My Brothers’.
