Oscar winning actors Tim Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption); Martin Landau (Ed Wood, North by Northwest); Brit actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets & Lies) and newcomer Harry Treadaway (Meadowlands) round out the cast for ‘City of Ember’, the $50m feature film currently shooting in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The actors join previously announced cast members Bill Murray, Toby Jones and Irish teen star Saoirse Ronan in the adventure story which follows two teenagers who must unlock ancient mysteries about the city and save it from eternal darkness.
Robbins assumes the role of mysterious inventor Lorris Harrow, who holds a secret about the city, Treadaway will play his teenage son, Sul. Martin Landau will feature as Sul’s dark and shadowy boss.
Tim Robbins previously shot 'The Secret Life of Words' in Northern Ireland during 2005.
‘Monster House’ director Gil Kenan is directing the Caroline Thompson screenplay, adapted from Jeanne DuPrau’s novel.
‘City of Ember’ is a Walden Media/Playtone co production with Gary Goetzman and Tom Hanks producing and John D. Schofield executive producing. Walden Media’s head of production Alex Schwartz and creative exec Bonnie Solomon are also producers.
Summit Entertainment is handling international sales. Scheduled released date is October 10, 2008 through Twentieth Century Fox.
