New Play from ‘Intermission’ Screenwriter Premieres at Abbey
13 Jun 2007 :
The Abbey Theatre concludes its 2007 4X4 season at the Peacock theatre with the world premiere of a new play from ‘Intermission’ screenwriter, Mark O’Rowe. ‘Terminus’ opens on Wednesday 13th June, running until 7th July, and sees O’Rowe in his directorial debut.

‘Terminus’ is a tale of three people ripped from their daily lives and thrown into a fantastical world of serial killers, avenging angels and love-sick demons.

The cast for ‘Terminus’ includes Andrea Irvine, Aidan Kelly and Eileen Walsh. Kelly and Walsh will both start filming ‘Eden’ the movie of Eugene O'Brien's smash-hit play, next month.

The design team for ‘Terminus’ includes original music by Philip Stewart, (‘A Number’) and Jon Bausor (‘Julius Caesar’) on set and costume, and welcomes lighting designer and technical manager at the Young Vic, UK, Philip Gladwell, to the Abbey for the first time.

Mark O’Rowe is recognised as one of Ireland’s most important contemporary playwrights. He is seen as a crucial figure among an exciting generation of young writers who emerged in the 1990’s and, in their exchange of traditional rural stories for urban concerns and with an exploration of diverse theatrical forms, changed the face of modern Irish theatre. O’Rowe’s early works include ‘The Aspidistra Code’, ‘Anna’s Ankle’ and ‘From Both Hips’, but it was ‘Howie The Rookie’, produced by London’s Bush Theatre in 1999 and later touring to the US, which proved to be O’Rowe’s breakthrough play. In 2003 he took a sidestep into the world of film with his screenplay for the movie ‘Intermission’, directed by John Crowley and starring Colin Farrell, collecting much critical acclaim. ‘Terminus’ is O’Rowe’s first play in four years.

‘Terminus’ runs from 13th June-7th July 2007 at the Peacock Theatre.
Previews: 9th, 11th and 12th June 2007.
Tickets from €14. Booking on 01 878 7222.
