Soho Editors have announced details new courses taking place at their Dublin HQ over the summer months. Courses will cover Motion, Final Cut Pro and After Effects.
Final Cut Pro Level 1
This three-day hands-on course introduces students to the primary feature set and basic interface of Final Cut Pro 5. In this course students learn to perform basic editing functions while familiarising themselves with the user interface. Topics include basic setup, adjusting and customising preferences and settings, capturing video and audio, various editing and trimming techniques, ripple, roll, slip and slide tools, audio editing and audio creation, finishing and final output.
This course is designed for those who want to edit video to a professional standard using Final Cut Pro 5. This course includes an Apple Pro Certification Level 1 Exam. Please note this course is intensive and only suitable for those with experience using Final Cut Pro or as a professional editor.
Motion Level 1
This three day hands-on course will familiarise candidates with Motion 2, Apple’s revolutionary software for motion graphics design. The course comprehensively covers working with Motion’s Real-Time Design engine and interface, behaviour-based animation, parameter behaviours, blend modes, advanced particle system design, advanced title animation, working with templates, chroma key techniques, masking methods, DVD motion menu design, tablet-driven gesture UI techniques, working with audio, keyframing, and integration with Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro. Emphasis is placed on real-world projects and design technique. The course includes an Apple Pro Certification Exam and is designed both for those entering the motion graphics field and those migrating from other motion graphic design software packages.
Final Cut Pro Level 3
This three-day course provides the most extensive must-know professional techniques for cutting dialogue scenes, action scenes, fight and chase scenes, documentaries, comedy, music videos, multi-camera projects and more. The course also covers Soundtrack Pro, audio finishing, managing clips and media, and working with film.
This course is designed for existing Final Cut Pro users who wish to increase their skill level through learning advanced features and workflows. The course includes an Apple Pro Certification Level Two Exam. Candidates will NOT be certified at Level Two unless they have taken and passed the Level One exam. We therefore strongly recommend that trainees undertake a Level One course (an FCP 101 or an FCP 200) before going on the FCP 300.
After Effects Beginner - Advanced
Beginner - The After Effects Fundamentals course gets students quickly up to speed with the basic concepts of working in After Effects, and how to best use the software to achieve their needs. Completion of the course will leave students with a good fundamental knowledge of After Effects, and the confidence to use it in a professional environment. Full course notes are provided at the end of the course. There are no prerequisites for attending this course, other than a working knowledge of the Mac operating system.
Intermediate - The After Effects Intermediate course is a 2 day, in-depth training session that covers the more challenging aspects of working in After Effects. The aim of the course is to give trainees the confidence and competence to use the techniques covered in the course in every day work, and to familiarise them with aspects of the software that they may not already be familiar with. Trainees will be encouraged to explore new techniques that will greatly enhance their knowledge of the software. Full course notes are provided at the end of the course.
To qualify for this Intermediate course participants must have previously attended the Fundamentals course, or have a good working knowledge of After Effects and be comfortable with all of the techniques and concepts covered in the Fundamentals course, the details of which can be found elsewhere on this site.
Advanced - The After Effects Advanced course is an in-depth 2 day course that gets into the real nitty-gritty of After Effects. Students are taught, in great detail, real-world tips and tricks that will greatly enhance workflow and working knowledge of the software. The Advanced course primarily focusses on working with Effects, 3D and Expressions, though other topics are covered, with emphasis placed on using After Effects features in creative, interesting and inspiring ways. Full course notes are provided at the end of the course.
To qualify for this Advanced course, participants must have previously attended the After Effects Fundamentals and Intermediate courses, or be entirely comfortable with all the concepts and topics covered in these. Information on both can be found elsewhere on this website.
