The programme for the forthcoming Darklight Film Festival Symposium (21 – 24 June) has been revealed with five key themes running throughout the festival’s lineup of screenings, masterclasses and workshops; the future of TV, game and film convergence, digital archiving, exhibition and distribution of film.
Launched at Dublin’s Filmbase by Darklight Director Nicky Gogan, the festival promises a number of high profile filmmakers joining the 2007 Symposium including BAFTA nominated shorts animator Chris Shepherd (Dad’s Dead, The World of Interiors) who will give a talk at the Irish Film Institute on Friday 22nd June, alongside screenings of his most acclaimed past work and his latest project ‘Silence is Golden’.
In addition, there will be a number of premieres during the festival, including ‘Daydream’, by Desperate Optimists (Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor) and a retrospective of the work of No Wave filmmaker Vivienne Dick that will take place on Sunday, 24th June.
“Darklight wouldn’t be Darklight without films,” says Gogan, “and this year we are delighted to bring a number of filmmakers and their work to Dublin for the first time. Chris Shepherd and Vivienne Dick are world renowned film makers, and Darklight offers a great opportunity for anyone interested in filmmaking to share their experiences of the industry.”
The Darklight Festival Symposium is tipped as a must for anyone interested in film, digital media and the arts. Now in its eight year, the festival is continuing its development with changing digital media and the 2007 fest also sees the arrival of the YouTube Video Lounge.
