“Mea Culpa is a study in jealousy”, says writer/director Virginia Gilbert. “The eldest of four young children, Peggy, 13, has taken it upon herself to play the 'wife' of the household since the death of her Mother. But a new arrival to the local community, Julie, a young teacher, threatens to usurp Peggy's place in the household through her budding relationship with Peggy’s father. Unable to voice the growing intensity of
her feelings, Peggy finally attempt to oust her 'rival' in an eerie and violent
conclusion.”
Produced by Aaron Farrell for Blinder Films, the short was filmed by Tim Fleming (Once, Small Engine Repair) on S16; with camera equipment provided by Production Depot, and lighting equipment provided by Cine-Electric. The Production was designed by Padraig O’Neill (Spin the Bottle, Adam & Paul), and Robert Dwyer-Joyce was the First AD. SFX were provided by Special Effects Ireland.
This is Blinder Films’ second production – their first, a darkly comic love story “The Basket Case”, written and directed by comedian Owen O’Neill, will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh. Blinder Films’ next production is ‘Striapaigh’, a documentary series for TG4 examining the history of prostitution in Ireland, also written and directed by Virginia Gilbert, which will begin production in the Autumn.
