Irish director Jim Sheridan is reportedly in talks to direct a remake of Susanne Bier’s 2004 multi award winning wartime drama ‘Brothers’ (Brødre) for Relativity Media.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sheridan is in talks with Relativity's Ryan Kavanaugh to helm the remake with Sony Pictures signed for North American distribution. Foreign sales will be handled by Magnetick Media at the Cannes Festival in May.
The remake is to be written by David Benioff (Troy, 25th Hour). The original story followed two brothers, one an army office, the other an ex-convict, who must cope with the changing roles and shifting family dynamics when one is sent to war in Afghanistan and the other becomes drawn to the first brother’s wife.
The original feature starred Connie Nielsen, Ulrich Thomsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas and among its awards won the World Cinema Dramatic Audience Award at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.
