New €1,000 Short Film Award Announced
11 Jan 2007 :
The Louth, Newry & Mourne Film Commission today announced a new short film competition. The ‘DIY Short Film Award’ carries a €1000 cash prize and a specially commissioned trophy, all donated by Irish director John Moore (The Omen, Flight of the Phoenix).

The competition is open to independent filmmakers resident in the island of Ireland. Submitted films should be no longer than 8 minutes and the competition is only open to shorts that have not received official funding.

Mairtín de Barra of the Louth, Newry & Mourne Film Commission said “It can be hard for filmmakers to get their films seen if they’re made outside of a recognised funding structure – we want people to use the technology that’s out there to go out and do it for themselves – shoot, edit, write and deliver. We’ll be looking for creative and clever shorts, original and entertaining.”

Finalists for the DIY Short Film Award will be screened as part of the new Cinergy Film Festival in Dundalk from the 15-17th February 2007. The Festival will take place in the Táin Theatre and the County Museum Screening Room, both in Dundalk.
