IFTA Academy Event Welcomes ‘The Tudors’ Crew

Costume Designer Joan Bergin (The Prestige), production designer Tom Conroy (Breakfast on Pluto, Intermission) and Executive Producer Morgan O’Sullivan (King Arthur, Becoming Jane, Veronica Guerin) are set to attend the Irish Film & Television Academy’s special preview screening of ‘The Tudors’ next week and will participate in a post screening Q&A.

This special preview event is part of the IFTA Academy’s series of summer screening events which kicked off earlier this month with a screening of new Irish feature ‘Speed Dating’. Guests attending the ‘Speed Dating’ screening included writer/director Tony Herbert, actors Don Wycherley and Luke Griffin, production designer Nicola Moroney, 1st AD John Burns and producer Adrian Devane. The guests also participated in a post screening Q&A with Academy members.

The Tudors’ screening takes place on Monday 23 April and offers IFTA Academy members the opportunity to become one of the first Irish audiences to view episodes from the hit Showtime series, currently receiving rave reviews in the US following its debut this month. The series was filmed in Ireland during summer 2006 and stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Sam Neill, Callum Blue, Henry Cavill, Henry Czerny, Natalie Dormer, Maria Doyle Kennedy and Jeremy Northam. The Tudors was produced by TM productions and PA Tudors. It is an official Irish /Canadian co-production and co-financed by The Irish Film Board under its international production fund.

Forthcoming Irish Film & Television Academy events include a preview screening of Mark Mahon’s boxing drama ‘Strength and Honour’ starring Michael Madsen and Vinnie Jones and shot on location in Cork in 2006. In addition a Special IFTA Presentation of Niall Heery’s award winning feature ‘Small Engine Repair’ will take place in June with the film’s IFTA Breakthrough Talent Award winning writer/director participating in a Q&A session with Academy members and coming in July for members of the Academy’s Makeup chapter, MAC cosmetics will host a Masterclass showcasing al the latest developments and trends in makeup for the screen.

The Irish Film & Television Academy events are exclusive to IFTA Academy members and their guests. Membership applications for the Irish Film & Television Academy is currently open and IFTA is offering an early bird deadline (April 30) for those who wish to apply and become members before the 2007 final August 31 deadline.
