Lunny’s Score Hat-trick of Media Commissions
27 Nov 2006 :
Father and son composing team, Donal and Oisin Lunny, have been kept busy of late with a hat-trick of media commissions; the latest RTE Indents, the Ryder Cup and Sky Broadband.

The composing duo are the musical force behind the new RTE One television indent music. Completing a series of 12 musical pieces, the commission was based on the commonality of Irish experience, with visuals produced by Red Bee. Hummingbird productions (who are also producing a documentary about Donal’s career) commissioned the Lunny's for the project. They're also working on the forthcoming RTE Christmas indents.

Donal Lunny is a highly respected figure on the Irish and international music scene. With a career that spans over 40 years, he is a founding member of Planxty and has collaborated with Bono & Adam Clayton, Kate Bush, The Kodo Drummers, Mark Knopfler, Elvis Costello amongst others.

Described as one of his most ambitious projects to date, Lunny recently composed and performed a live sequence of specially commissioned music to accompany the opening of the 2006 Ryder Cup in Ireland. The performance took place at the K Club golf course in Kildare, and featured a 13-piece band of top Irish musicians, large string section, bodhrans, lambeg drums, and a 60-strong choir. A CD release of the music is in the works for 2007.

Oisin Lunny’s credits include the 1999 MTV Europe Music Awards, the station idents for TnaG and the feature films ‘Human Traffic’ and ‘The Mean Machine’. Recently primetime TV viewers might hear ‘Mood Club’ a piece used to accompany the high profile Sky Broadband TV advert campaign. The track was originally released on limited 7" as a tribute to the fabled eponymous Dublin Soul club which flourished through the late '80's.

In addition to this work Oisin's current publishers, Seeca Music Ltd, have been busy securing syncs with Harvey Weinstein's ‘Derailed’, MTV's ‘The Real World’, cult UK indie short ‘Blind Man's Alley’ and the forthcoming feature films ‘The Waiting Room’ and ‘I Want Candy’. Other TV work includes the BBC’s ‘Children In Need’ and the Northern Bank's TV and online adverts.

Louise Martins, Seeca director explains: "Oisin's a really versatile and proactive writer, we are delighted to have been working with him over the past two years and things seem to be really taking off now."
