The Irish Film Board and members of the Irish film industry are set to travel to the US for Oscar week. The move is a bid to promote more business opportunities between Ireland and Los Angeles.
Andrew Lowe from Element Pictures (The Wind that Shakes the Barley) and his Hells Kitchen International business partner Arthur Lappin will be among those traveling to LA. Also included is James Flynn from Octagon Films (Becoming Jane) and reps from World 2000 (The Tudors, King Arthur), Parallel Films (Breakfast on Pluto), Grand Pictures (Spin the Bottle) Double Z (Podge and Rodge) and Tyrone Productions (Ros na Run).
Kilkenny based animation company Cartoon Saloon will also be traveling out to LA in an effort to promote their feature film ‘Brendan and the Secret of Kells’ and TV series ‘Skunk Fu’.
Another key player in the group is Kevin Moriarty of Ardmore Studios who will travel with the delegation in an effort to bring more US projects to Ireland to shoot in the studio.
Moriarty commented: "We hope to build on the success of The Tudors, which filmed in Ireland last year, and identify more key television projects of a similar caliber to shoot in Ireland. We will also be looking to maintain our on-going relationships with feature film producers".
The 79th Academy Awards take place on February 25, 2007.
