Irish actors Liam Cunningham, Hugh O’Conor and Gerry O’Brien feature among the headline cast for the TV adaptation of Jane Austin’s ‘Northanger Abbey’, alongside young international talent including Felicity Jones, JJ Field and Carey Mulligan.

Production on the single drama TV film is scheduled to begin in Dublin on the 21st of August.
British actress Felicty Jones (Servants) takes the lead role of fresh faced Catherine Morland, a young girl who enters into the depraved society of Bath with dreams and fantasies sparked by her love of gothic romance novels. US actor JJ Field (O Jerusalem, The Intended, Poirot) will play Henry Tilney, the young heir of the mysterious Northanger Abbey.
Carey Mulligan, star of UK period dramas ‘Bleak House’ and the recent feature film ‘Pride & Prejudice’, will appear as the scheming Isabella Thorpe, while ‘Snatch’ star William Beck will play her brother John.
Heading the Irish cast is Liam Cunningham, fresh from his success in Ken Loach’s ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’ and the popular RTE drama series ‘Showbands, who takes on the role of eccentric General Tinley. Other Irish talent includes Hugh O’Conor (Bloom, Chocolat), Gerry O’Brien (who is currently featured in a small role in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest) and Julia Dearden (The Most Fertile Man in Ireland).
With casting by John Hubbard, ‘Northanger Abbey’ is produced by Keith Thompson (NA Film Productions) and Irish producer James Flynn (Octagon Films). The drama will broadcast on the UTV/ITV and WGBH channels.
