Liam Cunningham to star |
Filming has commenced in South Africa on the RTÉ feature length television drama ‘Anner House’. The drama is an adaptation of a story from best selling novelist Maeve Binchy and stars Irish actors Liam Cunningham (The Wind That Shakes the Barley) and Flora Montgomery (Basic Instinct 2).
'Anner House' is produced for RTÉ by Irish production company Little Bird (Whiskey Echo) who commissioned the story from Binchy. Anne Marie Casey has written the screenplay.
Described as a “romantic story of dreams and aspirations”, the film follows Neil Barry (Cunningham) who leaves Ireland after a bitter divorce and custody battle to face the demons of his alcoholism in another place, Cape Town. A chance meeting with an Irish woman (Flora Montgomery), also trying to extricate herself from an unhappy relationship, helps him embark on a journey of self-healing and personal discovery.
The title stems from the characters decision to open a boutique hotel set against the stunning Cape landscape and calling it 'Anner House' - named after 'eanar' the Irish for January, the month when they met.
Supporting cast starring alongside Cunningham and Montgomery includes Conor Muller (The Honeymooners, Puckoon) and Amrain Ismail – Essop (This Life, Generations). Other featured cast includes Sizwe Msutu, Carrie Crowley and Phillip O' Sullivan.
Stephen Burke, director of the 2002 award winning mini series ‘No Tears’, is to helm the project. Little Bird’s Tora Young is producing. 'Anner House' will shoot for 4 weeks in and around Cape Town, South Africa.
