The Arts Council has been awarded additional funding to the sum of €2.5m from the Irish Government.
Announced by Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Mr. John O’Donoghue, T.D. the €2.5m fund has been awarded in response to the Arts Council’s request for additional money to implement its policy commitment to traditional arts, opera, festivals young people and children.
Ms Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council, said: “This allocation of funding to the Council is welcome in the context of the enormous growth in the sector in 2006. The reality for the Arts Council every year is that demand far outweighs our capacity to support all that is good and vibrant in the arts.”
