The 9th Annual Irish Film Institute’s Horrorthon Film Festival (26 – 30 October) will welcome Italian Horror director Lamberto Bava (Ghost Son, Macabre) and ‘Masters of Horror’ producer Andrew Deane as special guests for the festival weekend.
Opening with South Korean film ‘The Host’ (Gwoemul), the festival will feature screenings of classic films (Poltergeist, Night of the Living Dead) as well as recent horror pics including Guillermo del Toro’s Golden Palm (Cannes) nominated film ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ (El Labertino Del Fauno and Chris Sivertson’s ‘The Lost’.
Lamberto Bava is the Horrorthon guest of honor. Born in Rome in 1944, Bava is the son of Italian horror-film director Mario Bava (Black Sunday, Blood and Black Lace). He began his professional career working as an assistant director for his father as well as Dario Argento (Inferno, Tenebre). In 1980 he was assistant director on Ruggero Deodato’s notorious Cannibal Holocaust, and also that year made his own directing debut with ‘Macabre’. His most recent film, ‘Ghost Son,’ stars John Hannah, Pete Postlethwaite and Laura Harring.
Producer Andrew Deane is welcomed as another special guest of the festival. Andrew is an executive producer of ‘Masters of Horror’ and a partner in Industry Entertainment, one of the chief production companies behind the series.
For the first time ever, Horrorthon will tour outside of Dublin to the Queen’s Film Theatre in Belfast. A 4-day glut of scare movies, including new releases, anniversary screenings, and premieres, running from Friday, November 3rd to Sunday, November 5th.
