The film strand of the Kilkenny Arts Festival (11-20 August 2006) will include a special screening of the 1929 avant garde classic ‘Man With a Movie Camera’ and Jean Cocteau1930’s grounbreaker ‘Blood of a Poet’.
The music ensemble, 3epkano, will present a live music accompaniment to the two classic titles, considered some of the most outstanding work of the silent film era.
‘Man with a Movie Camera’ was directed by Dziga Vertov in 1929 and is considered an icon of film history. The documentary film celebrates Soviet workers and film-making, using radical editing techniques and cinematic pyrotechnics to not only portray a typical day in Moscow.
‘Blood of a Poet’ is the directorial debut of John Cocteau. The film depicts a distinctly personal world, capturing the poet’s obsession with the struggle between the forces of life and death.
