Films, an innovative new Irish production company, has begun filming it’s
first short “The Unusual Inventions of Henry Cavendish” on locations around
Dublin.
The ten minute short is an unusual love story

set in 1890’s Dublin. Written and directed by Andrew Legge it centres around an inventor who builds a time machine and travels back in time to reclaim his lost love. The film features a host of Irish acting talent with Hugh O’Conor (Bloom, Chocolat, The Boy From Mercury) and Fiona O’Shaughnessy (Goldfish Memory) taking the lead roles, with Frank Kelly and Shaun Boylan providing support.
The film is being shot on Super 16 Black and White film, with no sound. This method of production has been used to create the style of an early 1900’s silent motion picture. There will be no dialogue in the final cut of the film with all discourse between characters appearing as intertitles. As with movies from the silent era, the film will be accompanied by a musical score provided by Jurgen Simpson a renowned composer with ‘The Jimmy Cake,’ a band once described in the Irish Times as the “most powerful musical force in Ireland.” His opera ‘Thwaite’ has been shortlisted for the acclaimed Genesis Opera Prize.
Producer Katie Lincoln, told IFTN that she was “very excited” about making such an unusual and imaginative style of film. The 16 man crew have been busy filming in locations around Dublin, taking advantage of the Easter Break to film key scenes on Upper Mount Street. Other locations will include Kilruddery House in Bray, and Fitzwilliam Square and Drimnagh Castle.
Funding for the project has been provided by Filmbase and post-production will take place at Filmbase HQ in Temple Bar.
