'In America' Screening at Edinburgh
15 Aug 2003 :
Jim Sheridan gives a public interview on Friday, prior to the screening of 'In America' on Saturday 16 August at the Edinburgh Film Festival.

From the Edinburgh Film Festival programme, "A successful stage director and playwright in Dublin, Sheridan won acclaim for his debut feature, My Left Foot (1989), which earned Oscars for stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Brenda Fricker, as well as nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. He teamed up again with Day-Lewis four years later, for In the Name of the Father (this time earning seven Oscar nominations) and once more in The Boxer. Also a gifted screenwriter (Into The West, Some Mother’s Son) and producer (Paul Greengrass’s award-winning Bloody Sunday), Sheridan is indisputably one of the major figures in contemporary cinema."

The film was shot in Ireland and US in 2002, and stars Samantha Morton, Paddy Considine and Sarah and Emma Bulger as a family reeling from the death of their son/brother. The family relocates to New York, where they struggle to establish themselves.

The film screens in Edinburgh on Saturday 16 Aug at 8.30pm.
Jim Sheridan's public interviews takes place on Friday 15 August at 6pm.
