MEDIA Desk Ireland and MEDIA Antenna Galway have announced that the Irish audiovisual sector is in receipt of MEDIA funding in excess of 1 million euro this year. The current awards bring the total monies awarded to Ireland since the inception of the MEDIA programme to 17.8 million euro.

13 Irish Film and Television Companies received MEDIA development finance. Element Films, Independent Pictures, Mint Productions, Wildfire Films and Red Pepper Productions received Slate funding ensuring development finance for the next three years in the form of a rolling credit line.

“We are delighted that the MEDIA programme has decided to support our development slate. It’s a fantastic opportunity for a young Irish documentary production company to tap into the international co-production market.” Steve Carson, MD, Mint Productions.

Element Films is the first Irish company to receive 2nd stage Slate funding.

“MEDIA has been an extremely effective way to help us develop a slate of internationally focussed commercial films” Ed Guiney, MD Element Films.

The following companies received development support for individual projects:

Comet Film & Television Ltd, 'The Knocklean Soviet' (Documentary), Ferndale Films 'Magnificat' (Fiction), Gallowglass Pictures 'Teo Macero' (Documentary), Goldfish Films 'Aril Fools' (Fiction), Igloo Productions, 'Short Order' (Fiction), Nemeton Teo 'Gaelic Games' (Documentary) Subotica Entertainment 'The Six Revenges' (Fiction), And Wide Eye Films 'The Front Line' (Fiction).

“Ciallaíonn an deontas seo gur féidir le Nemeton forbairt a dhéanamh ar shraith cláracha faisnéise ar ábhar trom, stairiúil, nach mbeadh sé d'acmhainn againn a dhéanamh gan cabhair ó MEDIA" Irial Mac Murchú, Nemeton Teo.

Concorida, Crossing the Line Films, Gallowglass Pictures and Little Bird have benefited from the Television Broadcasting support scheme, which provides distribution finance for international television projects.

This year MEDIA also supported the Cinemobile, Cork Film Festival, Galway Film Fair and the Irish Film Institute under promotion and exhibition support schemes.
