Moonstone Screenwriters Lap in 2004

Moonstone International will be holding its first Screenwriters’ Lab of 2004 in France between 19 and 25 April 2004. The deadline for applications is 16 January 2004.

Moonstone International Screen Labs is an advanced development programme for experienced European screenwriters and directors, who are working on feature film projects for an international audience.

Moonstone International runs three Labs per year: two for screenwriters and one for directors.

The Screenwriters’ Lab is a week-long programme, which offers participant screenwriters the opportunity to work on their projects in a series of one-to-one meetings with established screenwriter Advisors selected, from North America and Europe, in consultation with the Sundance Institute.

Advisors on previous Labs include screenwriters Julian Mitchell Wilde, Shawn Slovo Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Troy Kennedy Martin The Italian Job, Michael Hoffman A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as Academy Award winner Callie Khouri Thelma & Louise, Oscar nominees Walter Bernstein The Front, Trevor Griffiths Reds and Jeremy Pikser Bulworth.

Recent Moonstone participants, and their projects, include Lynne Ramsay Ratcatcher, Hans Petter Molland Aberdeen, Sara Sugarman Very Annie Mary, Brian Campbell and Laurence McKeown H3, Maeve Murphy Silent Grace, Liz Gill Goldfish Memory, Shimmy Marcus Headrush and David Gleeson Cowboys & Angels.

Moonstone International was founded in 1997 in consultation with the Sundance Institute, the organisation created by Robert Redford in North America. The Chair of Moonstone’s Artistic Advisory Panel is Michael Caine.

Moonstone’s founding Artistic Director was writer-producer John McGrath. Through his unique energy and creativity, he inspired hundreds of emerging filmmakers from all over Europe. Moonstone is committed to continuing his work in developing independent screenwriters and filmmakers of talent and vision.

Moonstone’s work is funded with the support of the Media Plus Programme of the European Community, Scottish Screen, Screen Training Ireland/FAS, SGRIN the Media Agency for Wales and is supported by the Lottery through the UK FILM COUNCIL’s Training Fund.
