RTE Commercial Enterprises Rebranding to RTE International
11 Oct 2001 :
It has been announced that the Programme Sales Division within RTE Commercial Enterprises, the commercial subsidiary of Ireland’s national broadcaster RTE, is to undergo a major re-branding, with significant changes in identity and role.

As part of the move, RTE Commercial Sales will become RTE International and will get a brand new corporate identity and image.

RTE International will also move into a significant programme investment role and has already taken on the role of primary investor in some of the major productions it will be bringing to the markets this year.

With a sizeable programme investment budget at its disposal, RTE International will be taking a strategic approach to the product that it distributes internationally and will be involved with productions much earlier in the production process than was previously possible.

Showing at MIPCOM on a stand-alone basis for the first time this year, RTE International will be bringing a raft of hand-picked product to the markets this year, including the major new contemporary drama, ‘On Home Ground’ and long-running soap, ‘Fair City’.

Other major titles on RTE International’s books at Cannes this year will be the brand new U2-and-friends documentary, ‘Made in Manhattan’ and a series profiling celebrity stalkers, ‘Obsessions’. In addition, there will be brand new comedy series with ‘The Jason Byrne Show’ as well as an assortment of outstanding new documentaries and highly successful formats.

Speaking of the move, Edel Edwards, RTE International’s Programme Sales Executive said, “We are looking to build on a long-standing tradition of excellence in RTE and the Irish independent sector and to make RTE International a force on the international stage. With our new ability to invest in programming we feel we will be taking a proactive approach to the kind of product we will take on. This is a significant and positive move for us and the Irish film and television industry as a whole and we look forward to becoming the pre-eminent international distributor operating out of Ireland.”
