John T. Davis Escapes Fire
03 Dec 1999 :
The renowned director John T. Davis saw his life’s work burn to the ground on Wednesday 1st December when his home, Ben Eadar, caught fire. The house, which was also the setting for his latest film, The Uncle Jack, contained much of his archive work and original master footage. Much of his greatest work, seen and unseen by the public, has been destroyed in the fire.

Adding to this loss, his camera equipment and lenses were also destroyed in the blaze. Loopline films have set up a fund to help John and his family. They also intend to organise fundraising benefits on his behalf.

The first event will be a screening in association with the Irish Film Archive of John’s acclaimed film HOBO, at the Irish Film Centre at 2pm on Sunday December 12th. Loopline have requested that anyone interested in helping with the fundraising activities to contact Se Merry Doyle at Loopline: 01 453 5081/ Home: 01 491 0482.

John T. Davis’s work includes Shell Shock Rock, Power in the Blood, Dust on the Bible and Hobo.

Donations for the Davis family may be sent to the following ACC bank account:
