Internet Makes Debut at Cannes
30 Jul 1999 :
There will be a strategic focus on Internet broadcasting at this years Mipcom festival. The International Film and Programme market will be held in Cannes from 4th-8th October and will feature keynote conferences on the rapid convergence of television and the Internet. Led by executives from the broadcasting, new media and interactive content industry it is seen to be a clear signal of the changes in broadcast technology which are to come.

As more and more consumers come online all across the world, broadcasters have realised that viewer’s television consumption decisions have changed. New communication platforms such as interactive cable and satellite, broadband Internet and wireless information delivery will change this even more. It is clear that the traditional television industry has entered a fundamental evolution phase and the key now is to find a way to survive and adapt.

One of a series of keynote panels, entitled “A tale of two screens: Strategic steps into the converging TV-Online Vision”, will explore branding, distribution and audience retention issues while exploring the impact of the Internet on the TV business. Panelists will include executives from British Telecom, BBC, Disney Europe, CNBC, Yahoo and Real Networks reflecting the changing global face of television industry leaders.
