14th Budweiser Foyle Film Festival Presents Utopian Programme
18 Oct 2001 :
The official programme of the 14th Budweiser Foyle Film Festival was launched Tuesday 9th Octotber. Under the theme of "Utopia" the festival will run from November 9-18 in Derry. More than 200 films will be screened over the ten day festival ranging from romantic comedies, dramas, horror and sci-fi to the occasional fairytale.

In addition there will be master classes, Q&A's, industry focused workshops, special effects presentations and an extensive international competition section for shorts and animations.
Festival Director Shauna Kelpie is delighted with the international response.

Among the guests are film director and writer Neil Jordan, who will make a special appearance to speak about his work, screen writer Frank Cottrell Boyce, composer Steven McLaughlin, punk artist Jamie Reid, playwright and screen writer Conor McPherson, director Michael Radford and many more.

SONY will hold a one day workshop entitled "Breaking the News" which includes everything from vox popping to writing, editing and broadcasting a piece, in one day.

More information on workshops can be found on www.foylefilmfestival.com

In addition to presenting the ten day festival of film, workshops and master classes, the Foyle Film Festival is offering an education programme. The programme is aimed at children, leading them out of the classroom and into the cinema, a utopia for many.

The last night of the festival will feature the presentation of the Light in Motion awards. The winning recipient will receive the Derry Crystal award.

Away from the screen there will be a chance to party the nights away at the Festival Club where the highlight acts playing over both weekends will include Super Furry Animals, The Frames and Groove Armada.
