DATA:BASE is a one-day conference exploring the theme of "Democratization of Technology" featuring artists/musicians/technologists/academics and works that engage the public, where the public is essential to the nature of the work (execution, presentation, involvement).
In addition to the symposium, the space will feature a workshop space with basic prototyping tools, a technology swap-meet for people to freely trade old and used equipment, vendors selling technology-art based wares (art books, artist-made mouse pads, digital prints, etc...), and ongoing live interventions and performances during the day.
The evening event will culminate the day with performances, screenings, and interactive performative experiences. The idea is to disrupt the traditional performer/audience relationship where instead of a passive audience, each attendee will have ways of interacting with the performers and ambience of the space - either through their mobile phones, interactive installations created during the day event, or other systems created by local and international artists. There will also be a few staged performances and screenings and musical sets to accompany this effort.
