“Meeting Che Guevara & the Man from Maybury Hill” on currently on release theatrically, supporting Todd Haynes new movie “Far from Heaven” starring Julianne Moore. It is screening on seven screens in Dublin and also in Cork and Galway.
“Meeting Che Guevara & the Man from Maybury Hill” stars Fiona O’Shaughnessy, one of Ireland's leading actresses in her third collaboration with Writer-Director Anthony Byrne and Producer Brian Willis of Igloo Films.
Along with John Hurt as The Man from Maybury Hill and Karl Shiels as Che Guevara, the film makes for compelling viewing. Shot in Super 35mm Black and White, the film is a homage to the B movies of the 50’s.
Synopsis
During the Cuban missile crisis, a young woman sets out from a small Irish town to meet Che Guevara. Her imagination and reality slowly become blurred as her fascination with H.G Wells “War of the Worlds” begins to merge between the potentially real war of the worlds and Science Fiction.
The film stars John Hurt as “The Man from Maybury Hill”. He really added great weight to the project, and was interested in it from an early stage. He has described it as “Pure Cinema”, and a “fresh way to tell a story cinematically”. It was also his first Black & White film since the “Elephant Man”.
