Butterfly, a digital animated film created by Glenn Marshall and produced at Dream Ireland, has won Best Experimental Film - as voted by the audience at the 6th Brooklyn International Film Festival. This year's festival received 179 entries in the Experimental category, with 17 finalists selected.
"It's great to win the award, and it's encouraging that my work is acclaimed internationally. More and more film festivals are accommodating experimental film and animation which I feel is important in helping preserve cinema as an art form, and not just consumer entertainment."
Butterfly is a journey from life to death and back. It is a kaleidoscope of colour, sound and movement that lies somewhere between art and entertainment, speaking eloquently and subtly of the cycle of life and the transience of the moment.
This 4th accolade for Butterfly (and nearly 20 international festival screenings), comes on the back of Glenn's success in creating his first music video, for British rock singer Peter Gabriel.
Regarding Glenn's work - producer Michael O'Neill said "We now are exploring further ways of working together with RealWorld & Peter Gabriel and to see what projects that could be developed in partnership."
Glenn is currently finishing his 3rd short film, Lotus and will soon be beginning development on his first feature, Bardo, both with the support of the Irish Film Board.
