6th Sedona Conference to be held in Dublin
18 Oct 2002 :
The world-renowned Sedona Conference will this year take place in Dublin, from the 24th to 26th October 2002 at Clontarf Castle, Dublin 3. The worldıs leading digital and multimedia experts in Education, Technology & Entertainment will assemble for this, the 6th year of the Sedona Conference, for an extraordinary examination of multimedia advancements, digital technologies, and educational themes. The opening Conference speaker will be Edward de Bono, regarded by many as the leading authority in the field of creative thinking, innovation and the direct teaching of thinking as a skill.

Over 100 delegates are expected to attend from up to 10 countries around the globe, with the aim of heightening their awareness of the latest techniques, concepts and best practices in Digital Media. For 2002, the Conference, which has previously taken place in Barcelona, and its home town of Sedona, Arizona, will focus on the growing role of Digital Media in the education sector.

The education sector spends billions of euros a year on IT and the significance of digital media in education is increasing. This international event will help the sector to grasp the digital nettle by bringing senior education figures together with digital media practitioners, entertainment companies, equipment providers and leading technology strategists.

Dr. Paul Elsner, founder of the Sedona Conference and Chancellor Emeritus of over twenty community colleges across Arizona said, ³The Sedona Dublin Conference will discuss how media, entertainment, technology and education intersect in one of the worthiest forums one could deliver to a thinking audience. If this conference were to concur on what educators, technology planners and policy leaders should bet the store Š it would be digital media"

The tone of the conference will be high-level knowledge sharing about technology and education with an emphasis on how digital media and the resultant creativity enters the equation. Joining Dr de Bono on the speaking panel will be international speakers from Ireland, UK, Netherlands, USA and United Arab Emirates, these include Jerome Morrissey, Director of the National Centre for Technology in Education, Chris Horn, founder and chairman of Iona Technologies, Stephen Heppell, Apple Master and international guru in digital media, Jason Ohler, digital visionary and programme director at the University of Alaska and Frank Boyd, former chairman of the Digital Media Alliance and now a director of the BBCıs Innovation & Learning.

The 6th Sedona Conference will explore the following themes;
* Digital media delivers tremendous creative potential to the desktop. How does this open doors to greater diversity, not only in how we live and play, but also in how we work and learn?
* Globally there are estimated to be 800 million teenagers and young adults who have been born into the highest video and audio standards ever known; how does education engage with them?
* How do those who are working in the educational field and who are dealing with the implementation of technology on a daily basis engage with those who develop digital media, think or write about it?
* Digital media can be globally exported from wherever it is produced creating the tantalising proposition that world trade barriers dissolve with the formation of digital connectivity.

The conference is being produced by Digital Media Intelligence (DMI) in conjunction with the Sedona Conference the Edward de Bono Non-Profit Foundation. The conference website can be found at http://www.digitalmediaintelligence.com
