The BBC have announced that Irish director Declan Lowney will direct their forthcoming six part drama series ‘The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard’ which will star British actress Jane Horrocks (Little Voice).

Lowney, whose previous credits include ‘Cold

Feet’, ‘Little Britain’, ‘Father Ted’ and ‘Help, will begin production on the series in London during April 2006.

Described as “bold and engaging” by the producers (Kudos Film and Television -Spooks, Hustle, Life on Mars), Horrocks will play the title character, a supermarket manager who has grown disillusioned with the state of politics and decides to stand for election on an Independent ticket. Then, what starts as a bit of a joke gathers momentum with a couple of heavyweight politicians defecting to Mrs. Pritchard's side.

The series has been developed with Patrick Spence and Kate Evans at BBC Northern Ireland. It is written and created by Sally Wainwright (The Taming of The Shrew, Canterbury Tales – The Wife of Bath, Sparkhouse and At Home With The Braithwaites), produced by Alison Jackson (Child of Mine, Not Only But Always, Murder Rooms) and executive produced by Jane Featherstone and Simon Crawford Collins of Kudos Film and Television.
