Wildfire’s ‘DruidSynge’ Doco On RTE1
01 Feb 2006 :
Wildfire Productions’ latest documentary ‘Mighty Talk, A Journey With Druid Synge’ will screen on RTE1 on Tuesday the 7th of February as part of the Arts Lives series.

Filmed and directed by Rónán Fox during the Summer of 2005, the documentary follows some of Ireland’s leading actors (under the directorship of Garry Hynes)whilst they toured with the first ever staging of John Millington Synge’s entire theatrical canon, performed back to back over eight hours. The Irish Times describing it as ‘one of the greatest achievements in the history of Irish Theatre’.

Shot over six months, the crew had unprecedented access to rehearsals from the outset, lending a rare insight into the director’s and actor’s journey with this body of work. Hynes and her cast explore and define their roles as they shape the plays into the “Synge Cycle” that will be know as ‘DruidSynge’.

‘Mighty Talk’ gets close to some of Ireland’s most legendary actors, including Mick Lally, Marie Mullen and Eamon Morrissey as well as rising talent, Aaron Monaghan, Simone Kirby and Gemma Reeves.

Produced by Martha O’Neill at Wildfire Productions, the programme followed the process from the first day of rehearsal right through to its opening night, then accompanying the production on tour to Dublin, the Edinburgh Festival and finally to Inis Meain, the location that inspired much of Synge’s best work.

‘Mighty Talk, A Journey With Druid Synge’ is supported by RTE, the IFB and The Arts Council.

RTE1 Tuesday 7th of February 22.15pm
