Cork Festival Masterclasses Call For Participants

The 2005 Cork Film Festival in association with Screen Training Ireland have revealed details of two upcoming masterclasses that will take place during the festival next month; Exploring the Business of Filmmaking and The Digital Opportunity: A Guide to Digital Media for Producers

Stepping Stones: Exploring the Business of Filmmaking will take place on the 13th of October. The course will be aimed at emerging directors and producers and will hope to assist them in the development of their business and careers.

The participants will have to opportunity to gain from the knowledge and experience of established national filmmakers and companies. The seminar will explore areas such as when and how to start a production company, different business models, promoting your company internationally, strategic planning, and business and managerial relationships. The participants will explore a variety of company models through structured case studies.

The Digital Opportunity: A Guide to Digital Media for Producers will take place on the 14th of October. This seminar is aimed at Film, Television and Animation producers seeking to enhance their understanding of digital media.

The course will cover such topics as:
• traditional media vs. new media
• introduction to convergence
• the changing demographic
• where are the new media having the most profound effect – mobile phones, broadband, games consoles, digital cinema
• User-created content; games and films
• profiting from the changing media environment.

Neil Leyden, Calico Media – Digital Media Consultant will tutor the course. Neil started his career at Windmill Lane in 1995, working as both a script-writer and director in the Corporate Communications Division. He became Head of Production at Windmill Lane Interactive in 2000 and oversaw the development of a range of innovative and award-winning educational and corporate multi-media titles across web, CD-Rom and DVD. He was involved in founding the Digital Media Forum, a collaborative network of digital media enterprises based in and around The Digital Hub and is currently its Chairman. He has lectured and consulted widely at third-level and continuing training in the area of Digital Media with clients including FÁS, Dublin Institute of Technology, Dublin City University and Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.
