recognises the talents of up and coming young actors from 21 European countries at the Berlin Film Festival every year. Each Shooting Star is given the opportunity to meet with the press and will be introduced to a host of European casting directors, key guests at various events and will attend the annual Shooting Stars Gala.
A graduate from the Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College Dublin, Negga has won critical acclaim for her varied roles in many classic and contemporary stage productions. She has performed in the Abbey Theatre, the Peacock and toured internationally with the Royal Court Theatre’s production of ‘Duck’ and the Druid Theatre Company’s ‘Playboy of the Western World’. For her role as Cat in ‘Duck’, she was nominated for the prestigious 2004 Lawrence Olivier Theatre Award for Most Promising Newcomer of 2003.
Negga’s film performances include the lead role of Mary in Billy O’Brien’s ‘Isolation’ and Lolita in ‘Colour Me Kubrick’ directed by Brian W. Cook. She also played the lead role of Taiwo in Ciarán O'Connor's ‘Capital Letters’ and won the supporting role as Charlie in the much acclaimed, Golden Globe nominated film, ‘Breakfast On Pluto’. She is known to Irish television audiences for her role as Lisa in the 2004 hit RTE series ‘Love Is The Drug’.
"Ruth’s recent performances in ‘Breakfast On Pluto’ and ‘Isolation’ demonstrate her ability as a tremendously gifted young actress. Irish actors are highly regarded on the international stage and have achieved considerable success both in Europe and in Hollywood. Ruth clearly has the talent to follow in the steps of Ireland’s leading stars", said Irish Film Board Chief Executive, Simon Perry.
