Sheridan's The Boxer will be screened |
The Cork Film Festival has announced it will lead a delegation to the Festival de Film Amazigh in Algeria taking place from the 26th to the 31st of December 2005. Curated by CFF programmer Úna Feely, the Irish retrospective consists of nine shorts and one feature film that will be screened at the festival.

The films chosen for screening are:

• Colm McCarthy’s ‘The Making Of A Prodigy’ (2002)
• Naomi Wilson’s ‘Rehy Fox’ (2001)
• Conor Horgan’s ‘The Last Time’ (2002)
• Glenn Marshall’s ‘Butterfly’ (2002)
• Louis Marcus’ ‘Fleá Ceoil’ (1967)
• Ruairi Robinson’s ‘Fifty Percent Grey’ (2001)
• Edith Pieperhoff, Padraig O’Neill & Mairin Murray’s ‘An Bonnán Buí’ (1995)
• Clare Langan’s ‘Storm’ (2001)
• Audrey O’ Reilly’s ‘In Loving Memory’ (1999)
In addition to the film programme, the delegation will also present the best in Irish music. The team will spend the holiday season at the film festival which is located in the remote city of Ghardaia, referred to as the Pearl of the Oasis, as it stands on the brink of the Sahara.
Úna Feely (Festival Programmer with Cork Film Festival), Eanna de Buis (Festival Administrator & Short Film Promoter, Cork Film Festival), Dr. Tony Langlois (Lecturer in Media Studies, University of Ulster) and Dr. Desi Wilkinson (Lecturer in Folk & Traditional Music and musician, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne) will attend the festival.
Commenting on the initiative Úna Feely said “We are very excited about presenting this capsule of Irish film culture to a North African audience, a region with a rich film and music tradition… Algeria is an interesting partnership for us, and both film festivals have spent many months planning this trip which is in keeping with Cork Film Festival’s wish to explore new cinematic culture on behalf of our audience”.
