The Diageo Liberties Learning Initiative eStreet Showcase will be launched by Minister for Communciations, Marine and Natural Resources, Mr Noel Dempsey on Thursday, August 4, 2005, at 12noon in Digital Exchange, Crane Street, The Digital Hub, Dublin 8.
The eStreet Summer project has seen 50 children aged between eight and 16 years work with computer-based design systems to create their ideal street. Working with the famous Liberties Street of Thomas Street as their template, the children were given a set of landmarks features and facilities that they could put on the street.
New elements added to Thomas Street by the children include trees, street furniture, playground areas and cultural facilities and these "new" versions of Thomas Street will be on display at the Showcase. Screens will be used to project life size versions of the children's designs, which the children can interact with.
The project, which was undertaken by children from nine local community
groups, is designed to teach them digital media skills and teamwork, and demonstrate to them how their decisions can affect their lives.
The eStreet project was organised by The Digital Hub through the Diageo Liberties Learning Initiative (DLLI).
