Winners of the 2005 Irish Film & Television Awards

O2 TV Personality Mark Cagney

The 3rd annual Irish Film and Television Awards took place in the RDS on the 5th of November 2005, hosted by the inimitable James Nesbitt, 35 awards were presented in front of an audience of Irish and international stars.

Aine Moriarty, CEO of the Irish Film and Television Network (IFTN), organisers of the

event said:

“The quality of the Irish Film and Television industries is evident in the success of these Awards. The talent coming out of Ireland is incredibly strong and it is great to see that the support is there for it to get even stronger. Congratulations to all the winners!”

Prominent winners from the Jury categories included Pavee Lackeen for Best Film and Liam Neeson for Best Actor in Kinsey. Winners from the world of television included Pure Mule, which scooped a host of Awards including Best Actor for Tom Murphy, Best Actress for Dawn Bradfield and Best Supporting Actress For Eileen Walsh.

Mischa Barton took to the red carpet along with a host of Irish and international style icons to celebrate outstanding Irish talent, along with the ever-elegant red carpet veterans Sinéad Cusack and Oscar award winning actress Vanessa Redgrave. Also gracing the red carpet were Andrea Corr, Orla Brady, Eva Birthistle, Tatianna Ouliankina, Renee Weldon, Caprice, Gráinne Seoige, Aoife Ní Thuairisg, Coronation Street star Sally Lindsay, Aisling O'Sullivan, Rachel Pilkington, Caroline Morahan, Pamela Flood, Kathryn Thomas, Rosanna Davison and many more.

David Kelly was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award and was presented the Award by Colm Meaney, who starred alongside him in Into the West. Mr. Kelly’s film and television career spans over six decades, including his role this year as Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton’s Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.

The People’s Choice categories saw a phenomenal response, yet again, with the race for O2 TV Personality of the Year being won by TV3’s Mark Cagney. The AIB Best Irish Film was won by the heart-warming Inside I’m Dancing and the Jameson Best International Film was won by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Ireland’s very own David Kelly. Also, Avica Best International Actor and Pantene Best International Actress Awards went to Mickey Rourke for Sin City and Gillian Anderson for The Mighty Celt.
