Winner - Killing The Afternoon

The winners of the 50th Cork Film Festival were announced at the closing ceremony on Sunday the 16th of October. Margaret Corkery’s ‘Killing The Afternoon’ scooped the top award of the evening winning the Jameson Award for Best Short Film.

The 8 day festival was another astounding success for filmmakers and film fans. The festival closed with a gala screening of John Hillcoat’s ‘The Proposition’ and the festival awards were presented by Festival Director Mick Hannigan.
This is the second year running the top award has been won by an Irish filmmaker (2004's winner was Ken Wardrop) and it was a big celebration for the locals with Cork native Corkery taking top honours.
Other Irish winners included a Special Mention in the Jameson Award for Best Short Film for Andrew Legge’s ‘The Unusual Inventions of Henry Cavendish’ and Mick Duffy picked up the Claire Lynch Award for Best First Short by an Irish Director for his film ‘Hitch’.
