The SP films short ‘The Ten Steps’ has won the Best Short Award at the Ravenna Nightmare Film Festival, where it was also nominated for a Méliès d’Or for Best European Fantastic Short Film.
This is the seventh award for the Galway Film Centre / RTE / Irish Film Board short, and the fourth on the EFFFF circuit following on from its’ wins at the Sitges, Neuchatel and Puchon Fantastic Film Festivals. ‘The Ten Steps’ had already qualified for the Méliès d'Or, having won top honours a the Neuchâtel Festival, so this second nomination puts the Irish short as a strong contender to win the overall Méliès d’Or Competition which will be announced at the awards ceremony in 2006.
Starring Jill Harding, 'The Ten Steps' was written and directed by Brendan Muldowney, and produced by Conor Barry. The old fashioned haunted house horror tells the story of a young girl babysitting in an old house . . .
'The Ten Steps' continues its’ festival run state-side at the Hamptons, NYC Horror, Chicago International Children’s and Fort Lauderdale Film Festivals, and in Europe at, amongst others, the Uppsala, Rennes, Regensberg and Leeds Film Festivals (the Leeds Film Festival marking its’ seventieth festival screening).
Come Halloween, 'The Ten Steps' can be seen on RTE 2 on Saturday 29th October at 11.30pm, with further screenings at the Horrorthon in the IFI, and as part of the Temple Bar Properties / FilmBase Scary Shorts Programme on Friday October 28th at Meeting House Square.
'The Ten Steps' will also have a Halloween screening on the French / German TV channel ARTE.
