Vinnie Jones to star

Pace Entertainment have announced plans to produce a new €5million feature film, ‘Ellie & Bob’. Scheduled for an early 2006 start, the film is written by Cork screenwriter Kieran Crowley and will be directed by Northern Irish helmer Syd Macartney.

Vinnie Jones (Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrells), who has just completed shooting another Irish feature ‘Johnny Was’ in Northern Ireland, has signed on to star in ‘Ellie & Bob’ with further cast yet to be confirmed.

The story follows the adventures of young 12-year-old journalist Ellie and her cousin Bob as they encounter Secret service agents, UFO’s and must deal with teenage love and deception.

Director Syd Macartney has just completed work on Jane Hall’s Big Bad Bus Ride a six part drama series for ITV. His other previous credits include the 1999 feature ‘A Love Divided’ with Liam Cunningham and Orla Brady, the 1998 television series ‘The Ambassador’ and ‘The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles’.

The producers behind the project are Dublin born Tri (Triona) Campbell – one of the first producers outside of north America to win the prodigious Tribeca first look award in New York for producing Stephen Kane’s low budget / Irish Film Board feature ‘The Crooked Mile’ in 2001. Campbell is co-producing with Dubliner Marcus Lynch son of the late Cork actor Joe Lynch (best known for his role as Dinny in RTE series ‘Glenroe’).

The producing pair have just completed work TV3 teen series ‘Young Blades’ which finished its 13 week run on the Irish channel last week. ‘Young Blades’ stars Irish actor Robbie Sheehan as King Louis and was written by Dan Angel and Billy Brown - the team behind series two of THE X FILES).

“’Ellie and Bob’ is a film with a lot of heart and we are delighted to be getting back to features. In particular working with both Kieran and Syd is a joy and over the last few weeks it has really come together,” says Campbell.

“They are both talents that will work well internationally and at home and were looking forward to a potential TV series spin off ” adds Lynch.
