The DIT Media Arts & Production Unit have announced their short course programme for 2005-2006 which includes ten week courses in Digital Imaging, Photography, Multi Camera Studio Direction and Advanced Studio Techniques.
The Introduction to Photography course begins on the 24th of September 2005. The course is intended to give participants an intensive introduction to traditional photography. There will be an emphasis on the practical use of
equipment, location and studio work, lighting
expertise, darkroom technique and familiarisation
with the process of capturing images on a digital
camera. Participants will spend time in the studio and
on location learning about both colour and black &
white photography – from lighting and shooting, to
processing and printing.
Priced 375 euros, places are limited to 12. Deadline for registration is September 17th 2005.
The Digital Imaging and Adobe Photoshop course begins on the 5th of October 2005. This is a 10-week, part-time course designed to
provide participants with a practical, hands-on
introduction to digital imaging and Adobe
Photoshop, the industry standard for image
manipulation.This course will be offered using Apple
Macintosh computers, and a familiarity with either
PC or Mac is required. A variety of learning methods
will be employed including lectures, slide shows,
discussions, problem solving exercises, computer
based learning, group critique, self-directed learning,
and project work. Adobe Photoshop
will be covered in detail, and extensive notes will be
supplied.

The Advanced Studio Technique workshop takes place on the 12th & 13th of January 2006. The course will cover the basics of exposure, metering,
and the complexity of various lighting conditions. The
technical and creative aspects of studio photography,
including electronic flash and tungsten light for still life,
portrait, and fashion will be covered. All formats, from
35mm to 4 x 5”, and a wide variety of films are
reviewed. Basic knowledge of camera equipment and
darkroom technique is essential.
Priced 195 euros. Deadline for registration is 5th of January 2006.
The Multi Camera Studio Direction & Operation is a ten week course designed to give participants
practical and professional exposure to the functions of a
multi-camera studio.
By performing a series of technical exercises, participants
will see how a multi-camera studio functions; learn how
camera scripts are made up; and about the chains of
command, studio practices and accepted terminologies.
Priced 595 euros, places on this course are limited to 10. Start date October 2005 (TBC). Deadline for registration TBC
