‘bro’Town’ New Zealand’s first animated adult sitcom, distributed by Irish company Monster Distributes, will make its Australian debut on Foxtel’s The Comedy Channel. It will also be released by Sony on DVD in Australia.
The Comedy Channel is excited about the potential of ‘bro’Town’ in Australia. Head of Programming, Dean Dezius says, “The Comedy Channel is thrilled to add ‘bro’Town’ to its growing line-up of adult targeted animation series…We are confident the success and enjoyment it’s delivered already in NZ will be mirrored here in Australia and attract a loyal audience to The Comedy Channel.”
The series has also screened in Fiji recently. Tukaha Mua, chief programmer of Fiji TV comments, “The general reaction we've received has been that the ‘bro’Town’ season was too short!”
Commissioned by TV3 NZ, ‘Bro’Town’ is airing after the Simpsons and enjoying higher ratings, with its premiere getting a 74% share among 15 to 29 year olds and the series just won Best Comedy Programme and Best Comedy Script at the New Zealand Screen Awards.
Based on the comic genius of the multi-talented Naked Samoans theatre group, ‘bro’Town’s primary aim is to make people laugh, but the series also seeks to foster tolerance by confronting delicate issues, like racism and violence, with the writers’ unique brand of home grown humour.
The second series of ‘bro’Town’ is due out in New Zealand in September and ‘bro’Town…The Movie’ has been granted development funding for from New Zealand’s film funding body the New Zealand Film Commission.
Monster Distributes is launching the series at MIPCOM Junior in October and is looking forward to bringing this hit series to more territories.
